5 Tips to Choose a Great Campsite
That long weekend is
fast approaching and just like what any other person would do, you just want to
hit one of the best campsites away from the city and have a long and enjoyable
weekend with family or friends.
Everything is set, but
the location is one thing that is still giving you a little bit of a headache;
yes you know the best camping area, but you are having trouble picking the best
spot.
Like a good number of
things we do in life, choosing a campsite is very much a matter of taste, but
to get started. Here are 5 tips that will help you choose a great campsite.
1. Size
Campsites vary in
sizes and you need to think about the size of your camping set up. Do you have
a very large tent? How many tents do you need to fit into the one site?
These are some of the
questions you must ask yourself and make sure you get answers. If there is
going to be a campfire, you may want to look for a camping site that can fit
your gear and hold a campfire, as well.
2. Ground surface
If you are going to
spend a couple of days out there, where you will be sleeping is important when
it comes to picking a camp site. Many at times, you are advised to pick a spot
with a flat ground to pitch your tent. Plus, make sure the ground has no sharp
protrusion. It at you can get a flat area covered in grass or sand that would
be awesome.
3. What is above and around you?
For your own safety,
always be aware of what is looming above you. At no time should you set up your
camping tent beneath a dead tree branch. The same goes for avalanche and
rockslide paths. It does not even stop there; what is around you is also
important and must be considered at all times.
After all, who would
want to be camping right on the water’s edge due to blood thirsty animals, bug
and flooding risk? In short, be cautious of these sorts of hazards at all
times, because Mother Nature is not always forgiving.
4. Site conditions
You might need to look
around at your site a little more closely before you make you final decision.
Make sure there are no anthills around and the ground is clear of debris like
rubbish, rock and twigs. Again this is something you can clear on your own; it
doesn’t necessarily have to be a deal breaker.
5. Your privacy
Last but not least;
your privacy is also key and while neighbors can be a good thing, you do not
want to be camping next to another party 12 to 20 feet away from your spot. A
little bit of privacy will not only make your camping experience quite
enjoyable, but also highlight the excitement of getting out into the
wilderness.
One of the main
reasons why you are out there camping is to relax and unwind after a very long
week working, and you may want to be very careful with your choice. Pick a spot
that will let you relax and unwind.
